PROTECTING YOUR VOTE
- THANK YOU -
I AM ASKING FOR YOUR VOTE
IN THE RUNOFF SPECIAL ELECTION
ON TUESDAY - OCTOBER 13, 2020
Brandi and I would like to express our sincere appreciation to the voters, our dedicated volunteers, and friends and family who faithfully prayed for us during the past weeks. We are humbled by your support as we move forward to the runoff special election on Tuesday, October 13th. I will continue working hard throughout the district to earn your vote. Allow my qualifications and Christian foundation to be a strong and fair voice for all in Southwest Mississippi. I would be honored to have your vote and serve as your next senator. Feel free to call me at 601-754-9367 with any questions you may have and learn more on our FOCUS and VIDEO website pages.
A MESSAGE TO THE VOTERS
After prayerful consideration, together with my family, we made the decision for me to seek the recently vacated office of Mississippi State Senate District 39–serving all of Lawrence and Lincoln counties, and portions of Copiah and Walthall counties.
I have been working hard throughout District 39 to earn your vote and share my message of small government, less regulation, low taxes, supporting small businesses, growing our economy, protecting your constitutional rights, and ensuring your voice is heard at the ballot box.
Normally, I would be knocking many more doors throughout the district asking for your vote in person, but COVID has definitely changed the way we campaign in order to protect the health and safety of our residents during the limited campaign time allowed for this four-county primary special election, and now the runoff special election on Tuesday, October 13th.
With that being said, I hope you will consider this website a virtual knock on your door with me asking for your prayers, support, and vote on Tuesday, October 13th. It would be my honor to serve all residents as your next District 39 State Senator.
Family means everything to me. I am married to the former Brandi Edwards of Monticello, and we have two children, Emme and John Henry. Our family lives in Brookhaven, but we have had the privilege of living in both Lawrence and Lincoln counties. We are members of Heucks Retreat Baptist Church in Brookhaven, and former members of Bethel Baptist Church in Monticello, where I served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. I’m a small business owner and a family law attorney with Barrett Law Firm in Brookhaven, before that I was a public high school history and geography teacher, and coached football, softball and track.
WHY I AM RUNNING
FOR SENATE DISTRICT 39
As we talk about why I’m running for office and my platform, first, let me say that I am not a politician and that I have not ran for office before this year, but what I am is a conservative Republican who believes government should be run from the citizens up, not bureaucracy down. I am not in favor of big government, over regulation, or tax increases; but I am in favor of you always having a voice at the capitol and at the ballot box, and helping our families and small businesses keep more of their hard earned money in their own pocket where it belongs.
As you know, our constitutional rights are under attack. I am dedicated to protecting your religious liberty and the right to vote. I am pro-law enforcement and pro-military, and as a lifelong supporter of the 2nd Amendment with an NRA "A" rating, you can count on me to protect the right of the people to keep and bear arms, and support our hunters and gun owners.
I am running for office because all of the liberties and freedoms that I just mentioned are worth fighting for. Your family, your children, our small businesses, our communities, our future generations, and your voice at the ballot box are worth fighting for. Small government, fewer regulations, and lower taxes are worth fighting for.
I am running for office because you deserve a senator who will listen to you, help you, and serve you through transparent leadership. You deserve a senator who will be a trusted voice, and represent the values and will of the people. You deserve a senator who will be accessible and offer you real-time input to help ensure your voice is heard at the capitol. I will be that senator.
WHAT YOUR VOTE REPRESENTS
Unlike other candidates, I am not in favor of raising taxes or keeping your voice and your vote from being heard. A vote for me is a vote for your voice at the capitol and at the ballot box; low taxes; smaller government; less regulation; improved infrastructure; funding for education; providing teachers with promised pay increases; support for rural hospitals; accessible, affordable healthcare for our most vulnerable residents; supporting our veterans; funding for road and bridge repairs, including potholes; rural broadband for telemedicine, distance learning and telecommute jobs; reopening our economy; a fresh perspective for economic development; helping small businesses succeed; promoting a skilled workforce; and creating job opportunities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
I am a public high school graduate and received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia and my law degree from Mississippi College. I was the first in my family to graduate from college and then go on to graduate from law school. Those years and my upbringing taught me that hard work, determination, sacrifice, and personal responsibility are necessary in everything we do, and I am committed to applying those same values as your next senator.
I believe my education; work experience as a family law, city, county and youth court attorney, and former public school teacher; and being a small business owner who is actively involved throughout our communities, uniquely qualifies me to move us forward as we find effective solutions to the issues within our district.
TOGETHER, LET’S BUILD
A BETTER SOUTHWEST MISSISSIPPI
Thank you again for your support in the primary special election. I am asking for your support and vote once again, but this time in the State Senate District 39 RUNOFF SPECIAL ELECTION on Tuesday, October 13th. Your prayers and support in the coming weeks are greatly appreciated. Please call, message, or email me with questions or concerns you may have. Allow my qualifications and Christian foundation to serve as a trusted voice for you, the people of our district. Together, we can build a better Southwest Mississippi for the livelihood of our families and the future of our children.
